چکیده

During the last few years, structural and genomic projects provided us with a wealth of biological information that now opens new prospects of understanding life and evolution at the molecular level [1]. In the next future, one of the main challenges will be the organization and the interpretation of this exponentially growing amount of data. In this work, we show how the rational application of computational techniques can be exploited to derive a deeper knowledge of the mechanisms underlying protein folding and evolution of protein superfamilies. In particular, the application of such techniques to the case of the fold-type I PLP-dependent enzymes is described.

Applying conserved peptides of NS1 Protein of avian influenza virus to differentiate infected from vaccinated chickens

Avian influenza (AI) is a highly contagious disease in poultry and outbreaks can have dramatic economic and health implications. For effective disease surveillance, rapid and sensitive assays are needed to detect antibodies against AI virus (AIV) proteins. In order to support eradication efforts of avian influenza (AI) infections in poultry, the implementation of “DIVA” vaccination strategies, ...

In Silico Perspectives on the Prediction of the PLP’s Epitopes involved in Multiple Sclerosis

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS). The main cause of the MS is yet to be revealed, but the most probable theory is based on the molecular mimicry that concludes some infections in the activation of T cells against brain auto-antigens that initiate the disease cascade. Objectives: The Purpose of this research is the...

Genetic Analysis of Three Structural Proteins in Iranian Infectious Bronchitis Virus Isolate

Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is a contagious pathogen in fowl that results in economic loss in the poultry industry. In this study, the amino acids sequences of three structural proteins M, N, and S1 for five Iranian IBV isolated during 1998-2011 have been analyzed. Conserved and variable regions, hydrophobic characteristics and identity matrix were determined after alignment by Bioedit ve...

In silico Analysis of Pasteurella multocida PlpE Protein Epitopes As Novel Subunit Vaccine Candidates

Background: Pasteurella multocida is a Gram-negative, non-motile, non-spore forming, and aerobic/anaerobic cocobacillus known as the causative agent of human and animal diseases. Humans can often be affected by cat scratch or bite, which may lead to soft tissue infections and in rare cases to bacteremia and septicemia. Commercial vaccines against this agent include inactivated, live attenuated,...

CAMPO, SCR_FIND and CHC_FIND: a suite of web tools for computational structural biology

The identification of evolutionarily conserved features of protein structures can provide insights into their functional and structural properties. Three methods have been developed and implemented as WWW tools, CAMPO, SCR_FIND and CHC_FIND, to analyze evolutionarily conserved residues (ECRs), structurally conserved regions (SCRs) and conserved hydrophobic contacts (CHCs) in protein families an...
